The Liver BiopsyAs with any procedure, you have to strip and put that, oh so open, gown on. Lucky for me they had one big enough for me. I was rolled down to Radiology and prepared for the biopsy. First the doctor used Ultrasound to locate my Liver. When he found it, he noted the size. Apparently my Liver is MUCH larger than usual. He explained that he will be injecting a local anesthetic between the ribs to numb the area. It began with a pinch and then I felt nothing. He slowly inserted the needle deeper while releasing the numbing medicine. When he was about to enter the Liver, he warned me of another pinch and then all was numb. As best as I could tell, the instrument used for doing the biopsy had some sort of trigger. When it was inserted into the Liver, there was a snap and it was removed. The doctor did this 3 times and he was done. I was cleaned up and band aids were applied to the entry area. I was placed on my right side to keep pressure on the opening and rolled back to Same Day Surgery for a shot of Morphine and 4 hours of rest. My wife picked me up at 4:30 and brought me home. The doctor instructed me to rest for 24 hours and not do too much for three days. I will know the results of the biopsy on Monday. |
